Don’t Wake Me- Think of the Children
Very, very early this morning…
Heidi: Honey, get up.Ed: Ung
Heidi: Wake up honey- we have to leave early to vote.
Ed: Bun, do you think you could do me the biggest favor I’ve asked today?
Heidi: Hm.
Ed: Could I go back to sleep please? In my dream I was handing out food and toys to poor orphans.
Heidi: HON-ey…
Ed: And now they’ll starve unless I go back and finish.
Heidi: We have to get up.
Ed: OK, but tomorrow I’ll tell ‘em it was you who made them starve. And I’ll tell ‘em to go to your dream- as MONSTERS. (gets up and heads to shower)
Remember- we must all sacrifice to keep the glorious wheels of democracy turning.

I would use that excuse to sleep in, but for the last week I seriously haven’t had a dream that didn’t involve the Red Sox winning the World Series over and over again. Wait, that’s not true. I had one dream where I was kickboxing 1970s ABA and NBA star Connie Hawkins on an inflatable boxing ring off the coast of Chile. I think that that dream symbolizes some kind of internal struggle I’m having with my view on race relations in American sports. Either that or I fell asleep on the couch with the TV on ESPN Classic and then rolled over onto the remote and kept switching back and forth with the travel channel. Yeah, I’m gonna have to go with reason number two.
